Asgard Subsea Gas Compression Project Abstract

In 2015 Statoil and partners realize the world’s first subsea compression on the Asgard field in the Norwegian Sea. The technology will increase the production and life of the Mikkel and Midgard reservoirs and provide a stable output of 306 million barrels of oil equivalents. The Midgard and Mikkel gas reservoirs in the Asgard field have been developed as subsea field installations. The wellstream from both fields, which are located 50 and 70 kilometers away respectively, is sent in the same pipeline to the Asgard B platform. Compression is necessary to keep up a high production profile to the Asgard B platform towards the end of 2015. The subsea compression solution compared to a traditional compressor solution reduces the energy consumption and the CO2-emissions by 50%. Within this project, GE Oil & Gas will provide the technology of LM2500 DLE and SAC Gas Turbine, suitable for offshore outdoor installation.
